Sometimes, that can look like dramatically increasing the decay of a spring reverb to simulate springs far larger than those found in amps, other times it can look like a room reverb if the room were an infinite number of square feet. In the plate reverb realm, our Talisman already pushed the boundaries of what a real EMT 140 could sound. In that pedal, we expanded on an EMT 140’s impetus, a giant sheet of metal suspended in a frame with springs and clamps, adding a handful of tasteful appointments designed to create controls where once were none.

Our Talisman Ghost takes a step outside of even that framework to answer the question: what would happen if you configured two EMT 140 plate units to work in modulated tandem? The result is a luscious chorus-like effect, applied only to the reverb trail. This ground-up reimagining took a careful look at the diffusion characteristics of a real EMT 140, bolstered by the luxury of having a second 600-pound behemoth running in parallel, which most studios did not.

This tasteful modulation dramatically opens up the spatial effect of the reverb by giving you the sound of two plates co mingling with one another in satisfying ways. This serves up a slick post-process doubling effect that lends a sense of dynamics to a normally static reverb decay.

Catalinbread knows what type of spirits lurk within the hearts of ancient tonal devices. Where would modern day fuzzboxes be if not for the faulty tube in the console at Nashville’s Bradley Studios? Sometimes gear that is… disturbed… is the key to achieving fresh tones. It is these strange possessions that led us to ghost hunting: The Adineko Ghost distills this spectral energy into our beloved Adineko circuit. Behold, as the new Ghost control introduces a densely-filtered octave section into the delay path, for just a touch of spooky modulation to full-on digital gaga that permeates your signal chain. With the Ghost control infecting both delay lines of the original Adineko, you can mix in your own blend of short and long delay on either end of the Balance control, or mix them right down the middle for a full supernatural experience with a healthy dose of the Ghost control. If you opt to keep the Ghost at bay, the Adineko Ghost still delivers a killer oil-can delay just like the devices of yore.

We locked it away in the vault, but the apparitions surrounding Catalinbread HQ have infiltrated that barrier and possessed our beloved CSIDMAN. While the original was long believed to be inhabited by spirits, we can tell you that it is not the case. However, the spirits communicated to us that the Latch and Cuts controls have been combined into one knob, and the new Ghost control introduces a sample rate reducer that infects the repeats for some truly spectral granular delay tones.

The first thing to keep in mind about the CSIDMAN is that it completely embraces and makes no apologies for the fact that it is digital (though it does have a 100% analog dry path). Digital is the CSIDMAN's aesthetic: as a delay pedal, it strives to reproduce echoes as true to the input as possible without filtering. When you utilize its scratched-disc, stuttery, and glitchy behaviors, it is pseudo-random, yet gives you a certain amount of "control" over the randomness. We've taken the idea of your old skipping portable CD player and incorporated it into a digital delay pedal that not only does normal delay sounds (at CD quality;) but can also skip, stutter, and glitch just like your beloved old CD player.

The mythos surrounding the original Yamaha FX500 is now well-traveled, but it was our own FX500B—the bass unit—that inspired the entire Ghost product line; one we bought on Reverb randomly switches patches, oftentimes to settings we had never heard before. That simple mechanical error gave way to the line, inserting new sounds within the architecture of forgotten gear. After some careful tweaking, we’ve summoned the spirits within the FX500 to bring you the Soft Focus Ghost.

The newest feature on the Soft Focus Ghost weaves a phase shifter into the mix, replacing the Symph knob that we originally added into the Soft Focus where once was none. The new Ghost control adds in a nontraditional phase shifting algorithm that serves as an enhancement tool rather than the gooey modulation that completely overtakes an entire signal. The rate and depth of this phase shifter are tied to the same knob, such that quicker speeds are deeper than the slower settings. The Mod knob now acts as a master depth control for all modulation, and the Ghost still includes chorus, plate reverb, input gain and full wet-dry mix capabilities.
