A funny thing happened on the way through the cabinet; when thinking about the newest piece to add to the series, we skipped over all of the typical offerings by the big name players and went a little more obscure. But us gear geeks know that obscurity is in no way related to quality. Zoom is proof and that pedal is the Ultra Fuzz. The WarMECH is our take on it.

The Ultra Fuzz asks quite a lot of the player, with a lengthy setup process that yields no sound in any way on multiple settings. In some ways, it is like its own instrument that requires a modicum of proficiency before one can use it to its full potential. This might sound quite similar to the same kind of verbiage usually applied to the Z. Vex Fuzz Factory, one of the most noteworthy modern fuzz classics.

With that said, the Ultra Fuzz is a powerful, compelling and dynamic piece of equipment that everyone deserves to try. Zoom knocked the Ultra Fuzz out of the park and into the stratosphere.

We have captured that ascending star and transformed it into the WarMECH, named after the most obscure and powerful enemy in the original Final Fantasy NES game. No matter your party configuration, WarMECH stands to turn your game on its end. We’ve taken our approach of enhancement without subtraction to the old Zoom unit too, subtly expanding on some features with the ability to dial in the original if you’re feeling nostalgic. Don’t be shy—encounter this one before it’s gone!

The WarMECH is a unique fuzz; challenging even, with a lot of different sounds and textures. It truly made me write some riffs with tones I would not normally think to use. It forces you out of your sonic comfort zone. This is what came out. If you want, you can make this pedal super synthy and make all sorts of whacky sounds.
